'Walking Around the balcony' installation view at Edinburgh College of Art Degree Show 2024

Sound Mapping

Work 1: Ascending/Descending, 2024, each 600 x 15 cm, printed and lasercut vinyl sticker

Work 2:Walking around the balcony, 2024, each 215 x 15 cm, laser-cut cardboard

These works visually map the sound of footsteps moving through spaces. The lines are subtle but eye-catching, prompting viewers to actively consider and be present of their bodily interactions with the space. The lines installed directly on the building walls are a direct allusion to our movements in space - climbing stairs, for example - by using sound waves to create a visual version of the sounds we make when climbing stairs of the sounds we make when climbing stairs. Similar to my bachelor thesis Look Around You, the aim is to heighten body awareness in space, and the work also uses the same conceptual idea of the influence of Microsoft Word spelling error lines.

The work ‘Ascending/descending’ interacts with Blinky Palermo’s work ‘Blue/Yellow/White/Red’.
