Look Around You

Look Around You aims to heighten the viewer's awareness of the space in which they find themselves. It enables a personal and sensorial exploration of our interaction with the space. This is done by interacting with the architecture of the space and the way we move through it. In this work, this is achieved by combining screen prints with a hand-painted red line.

The prints present abstracted representations of the architectural structures of the room in which the viewer is located in order to emphasise the aesthetic qualities of these forms and heighten awareness of the physical space. The viewer's gaze is guided through the room by the red line and gradually recognises the architectural elements such as the height of the room, the nature of the walls, pipes, windows or ceiling fans, which can be discovered both in the prints and in the room itself.

The red lines in this installation interact with the way the viewer physically moves through the space. They connect and demarcate the prints, mirrors and space. They playfully draw attention to both the prints and the space as they guide the viewer's gaze through the installation. In this way, they make the architectural forms conscious and sharpen the viewer's physical awareness of the space.
